The Science of Scent
Musings on scent…Scent has long been considered a direct gateway to the brain, the emotions and the soul. To the subconscious. The sense of smell is the most primal, ancient root of our emotional life. Scent is processed in the limbic lobe, one of the oldest, most primal parts of the brain. The limbic system is instinctual, and beyond reason. In other words, before we even register that we are in contact with a smell, we’ve already received & reacted to it.
Scent straddles a line between the physical and metaphysical worlds. Since ancient times, smell has been associated with the breath, and the life force - prana.
The art and science of scent is so important to my formulations here at Nāo Ayurveda. Our oils are brimming with sensorial, herbaceous, high-vibrational plant essences, 100% derived from nature. These are the “fragrances” that work WITH our bodies, not against them. These ancient, natural scents speak directly to our ancient bodies. Essential oils are literally the essence, or spirit of the plant…which in turn connects us to our own divinity.
